Posho Mill
In the Posho Mill, which is situated in the grounds of KCH, grain, maize, soya beans and ground nuts are cleaned and ground down into high protein porridge which is used to feed the babies and children at KCH. It is also professionally packed and sold in the thrift shop and also to the local supermarkets.
The Gloag Foundation purchases high protein porridge from the Posho Mill and distributes the porridge to the Samburu tribes, situated in the heart of the Rift Valley, to feed their families. The Samburu tribes are still recovering from the major drought of 2004 where many people lost their lives due to food shortages caused by low crop yields and dying cattle. The programme also distributes porridge to local orphanages and feeding stations.
This income generating project has been very successful both in terms of generating funds for the home and reaching out to the disadvantaged communities.
